More Thankful for Some Things Than Others!

As Thanksgiving approaches, it is natural to begin thinking consciously of the things that one is thankful for. I try very hard to live with an attitude of gratitude, and I'll tell you that homeschooling-wise, I'm very grateful for two of the three homeschooling support groups that I have joined. One led me to the co-op that Thomas and I are enjoying and the other sponsors the kickball, soccer, and bowling that we also have been enjoying very much.

But then, there's the third. I will have to think long and hard about joining again next summer. On the one hand, I have met some really wonderful women in this group. On the other hand, the bickering emails are draining.

The board works very hard but the membership is burning out the board members faster than they can even serve their full terms! Two have just recently stepped down, which led to the latest outrage. Two dads volunteered to take the board positions. Then two moms, who did not want the positions themselves, questioned whether the dads could/should be board members when they are not the ones doing the majority of the homeschooling and might therefore be clueless as to the needs of the moms who are!

I was dumbfounded. I was outraged by the slur to homeschooling dads in general, and towards these two men, in particular (the one who volunteered to be Treasurer is a CPA; how much more qualified could you possibly be?)! The "discussion" actually devolved further after that (!) and the President stepped in, shutting it down. At that point, I realized I was grateful I hadn't said anything.

I realize, things could change between now and the summer, when membership renewals come up. But if I had to decide right now, what do you think I should decide?
