Remind Me Whose Brilliant Idea it was to Adopt the Cats?

Okay, so it was mine. The kitten was so young...and it didn't look like her mommy was going to find a home...and I'm a sucker, okay?
So, we have Daisy, the mom, who's only about 15 months old. She was a stray who had her first litter too young and out in the wild--she's totally nuerotic. A small-boned cat, but she weighs almost 10 pounds (fattened up after we had her spayed). She'll eat until she makes herself sick. She doesn't know how to play.
Then there is Rosy, the daughter, about 8 months old. She's grayer version of her mother with a longer snout. She climbs the curtains and plays all day long. We had her spayed on Monday. Now, Daisy doesn't recognize her. She hisses and growls and spits. I'm sure she's wondering who this strange-smelling interloper is. Poor Rosy, though, is missing the comfort of her mother--after all, nothing's changed for her.
They used to be very close companions. Will they ever be like this again?

Hi Karen, I hope there's hope! When I took my 2 kitties to be groomed, the lady there said that if one undergoes a procedure (surgery, bathing) and the other doesn't, the other will totally rejected the "different" one because the smell isn't "right". But it'll wear off! Hopefully the 2 kitties are okay with each other again already!
Hi, Irish! Thanks for stopping by!
They are not back like in the picture--not by a long shot! But, they are getting along better every day. They are both asleep on my bed as I write this--not snuggled together, but at least on the same bed. It's progress.
When Velvet had to have his tail amputated (long story) his brother Arty was very confused and avoided him for about a week. However they are now back to normal - they love each other and also play-fight in equal quantities!
So I'm sure your two will soon be friends again.

Hi, Judith, and thanks so much for your encouraging words!
It is still touch-and-go with these two, but better every day. Last night, Daisy let Rosy sleep curled up with her and Daisy even licked Rosy a couple of times. But just now, Daisy has growled at her again!
Well, as long as it continues to get better, I'll be happy--and happy for them.
FYI... would you like this image in the banner at the COTC home page? Let me know.
I adopted a mommy and son pair of strays a few years ago. "Mommee" was very young and totallly neurotic, too. It took a while, but after courting her for a few months, she became my constant companion, and very affectionate also. She found a favorite toy and plays like a crazy girl. "Puff", her son, came around quicker. Be persistant!!!
Thanks for your offer Laurence! That'd be great! I guesss I'll email you?
Thanks for the helpful, hopeful words, Maria! They neither one are very openly affectionate. However, they show affection (I think?) by always wanting to be in the same room, or laying along the top of the couch where you are sitting--that kind of thing.
